An oldie but a goodie! In this day and age when everyone is pushed for time we seem to forget that baking doesn’t have to be time consuming or actually involve baking at all! This recipe has been a favourite of my boys since they were little and was always popular at birthday parties and family gatherings. It’s simply a bit of measuring, melting, mixing and chilling and before you know it you have a sweet treat for the little ones and for those not so little but maybe little at heart.
Ingredients
- 3 x 52gm Mars Bars, chopped
- 90 gm butter
- 3 cups rice bubbles or puffs
- 250 gm milk chocolate melts
- 20 gm vegetable or coconut oil (optional)
Directions
Grease and line a slice or lamington tin, mine measures 27cm x 18cm. You don’t want anything larger than this.
Chop the Mars Bars roughly and place in a small saucepan with butter. Cook over a medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they have melted. You may still have some parts of the Mars Bar that haven’t totally melted/combined.
Place the rice bubbles in a good sized mixing bowl.
Pour over the hot melted butter/Mars Bar mixture and mix to combine.
Pour the mixture into the prepared tin, press in firmly and smooth the top as much as possible. Pop into the fridge to set a little while you prepare the topping.
Place chocolate buttons and oil into a heatproof jug or bowl. Microwave on 50% power in one minute bursts, stirring in between. It should only take 2 minutes. Spread over the slice and refrigerate until firm.
Remove from the tin and cut into squares, if it is too firm to cut neatly sit a room temperature for half an hour or use a warm knife.
Note: the oil helps with the spreading of the chocolate and the slicing but is optional.
Have a great week everyone. Enjoy. Sheryl x
