This is a fantastic little recipe to have up your sleeve. If you are like me you usually have sheets of puff pastry in the freezer and an apple or two in the fruit bowl. It’s perfect to whip up quickly if you invite friends to stay for dinner or you just feel like a sweet treat at the end of the day. Serve with a scoop of ice cream or a drizzle of cream. It’s one of those recipe that aren’t really a recipe at all, more of a suggestion.
Ingredients
- Sheet of puff pastry, defrosted
- 2 small or 1 large apple, peeled, cored and sliced
- Cinnamon sugar or ground cinnamon and caster sugar
- Milk or a beaten egg
- Ice cream or cream to serve
Directions
Preheat an oven to 200°C and line a baking sheet with non stick baking paper.
Trim the edges of the pastry sheet as the edges can be dry and will stop the pastry puffing.
Cut the pastry into quarters and place on the lined baking sheet. Lightly score a square about one centimetre from the edges, being careful not to cut right through the pastry.
Peel, core and slice your apple/s.
Lay the apple slices, slightly overlapping on the pastry, inside the square.
Sprinkle with as much or little sugar and cinnamon you like. Brush the edges of the pastry with the milk or beaten egg (egg is best but milk is easier and less wasteful).
Cook in the preheated oven 12 – 15 minutes or until golden brown and the pastry is cooked through.
Serve warm with cream or ice cream.
As you may have noticed I’m not really a baker and don’t have much of a sweet tooth but this recipe does come in very handy on occasion. Super easy, quick and delicious, who doesn’t love an apple tart? Enjoy. Sheryl x
