This is the perfect recipe for entertaining, it comes together really quickly has hardly any ingredients and it makes enough to feed a tribe. The only problem is the original recipe calls for Fountains Mild Chilli sauce and unfortunately they don’t make this anymore. I have googled mild chilli sauces and Woolworth supposedly stock a Masterfoods one, but I can’t find that either, so I suggest if all you can find is of the hot variety go super easy on the chilli layer if you are sensitive to spice.
Ingredients
- 250gm packet Philadelphia cream cheese, roughly chopped
- 1 small to medium white onion, roughly chopped
- 1 tbsp (20ml) lemon juice
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Chilli sauce of choice (mild if available)
- 1 tin or container good quality crab meat
Directions
Put the cream cheese, onion, lemon juice, mayonnaise and Worcestershire sauce in the bowl of a food processor. Process until the mixture is quite smooth.
Spoon into a shallow serving dish, smoothing the top. Cover and refrigerate several hours until set.
When ready to serve spread over a thin layer of chilli sauce.
Evenly flake over the crab and serve with crusty bread, melba toast or crackers.
I probably was a little too heavy handed with the chilli sauce as it was quite a bit hotter than I thought, so go easy people if you don’t like it super spicy. If anyone knows of a mild chilli sauce that is available please leave us a comment and let us know where to find it. Please don’t be tempted to use sweet chilli sauce as the flavour just doesn’t go, I found this out the hard way. Enjoy. Sheryl x
